Earlier this month, we took the next step on our important journey for ALPA representation when we launched a card collection campaign. In just over 2 weeks, we've already seen a great response. Have you signed a card yet? This is your opportunity to show that you support joining a certified union under the Canada Labour Code to represent your interests as a professional airline pilot.
By joining ALPA, we will be on equal legal footing with management. We will sit at the bargaining table and negotiate our first collective agreement--an enforceable agreement that can’t be changed unilaterally without our consent. And as the world’s largest pilots' union, ALPA provides a wealth of resources when we negotiate our first Collective Agreement and support for our benefit as pilots.
Thank you to those who have already filled out a membership card and submitted the $5 initiation fee to formally indicate your interest in joining ALPA. As we explained in our first email, once a strong majority of Air Creebec pilots have completed this action, ALPA will file an application with the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) for certification.
And remember, the cards are kept confidential and are never shared with our pilot group or anyone from Air Creebec management. We understand this is an important decision and one that will impact your career and your family. That's why we took the time over the past year to have as many one-on-one conversations as possible to gauge the collective interest of Air Creebec pilots in ALPA. And the answer we got was clear.
If you would like more information, you can reach out to any of the members of the Air Creebec ALPA Organizing Committee (OC) listed below, or you can visit our organizing website at
crq.alpa.org.
You can also reach out to any member of the OC for a card or click on the Confirm Support button on the website to download a card and instructions on how to submit it. Just keep in mind that no card collection or submission may happen on company property during working hours. However, you may submit or receive a card while you are on a break or before or after your pairings.
Joining ALPA brings us together with more than 80,000 pilots at 42 other pilot groups in the United States and Canada--including more than 95 percent of our fellow pilots here in Canada. Our voice joins and amplifies theirs, and their strength becomes ours.
This journey has been an exciting one, and your response since we started collecting cards has only reinforced our excitement. We strongly believe that it’s time for the Air Creebec pilots to aim higher and join ALPA.
